Chinese Fish Get “Lucky” Tattoos

Pet shop owners at a pet market in the Chinese city of Chengdu have come up with a unique way to sell fish. The oceans. An immense, mysterious world full of wondrous creatures, bizarre and beautiful. But, despite a seemingly limitless display of natures unending miracles, there is one flaw. These fish dont have tattoos. Thats one oversight that pet shop owners at the Qingshiqiao pet market in Chengdu have remedied. Take a normal parrot fish. Now use lasers to tattoo the Chinese character for good luck on it, and youve got yourself a booming business. According to the Huaxi Metropolis Daily, while an ordinary parrotfish sells for just 10 yuan, a tattooed one goes for at least 25 yuan—about 4 bucks. And for 120 yuan, you can buy a matching set of four fish tattooed with the characters for “Good Fortune,” “Luck,” “Long Life,” and “Happiness.” Though the fish themselves probably have no such blessings.
